Eric Sorenson is a national baseball writer for D1Baseball.com, a site that is the “greatest college baseball site in the history of college baseball.” That’s a direct quote. Sorenson has been around college baseball for a long time now. He’s an expert. He knows what’s happening. His nickname is “Stitchhead”, that’s how much he knows.Eric and I discuss the 2020 Nebraska baseball season. We discuss:Whether Darin Erstad’s time at Nebraska was a success
Will Bolt and expectations for his first season
Penn State and why they’re an “anchor” on the conference
The rise of the Big Ten in the college baseball landscape

This week on the Five Heart Podcast, Jon and Greg are joined by Paul Dalen, who sets the ground work for a really interested episode when he comes back next week. Yep, Paul The Stats Man is working on a special project. With baseball beginning this week, the trio discusses the coaching turnover that has taken place in the big three men’s sports in the last few years, who inherited the best, and worst, scenarios. And Mel Tucker is a lying liar who told lies...but burning Colorado is something that Nebraska did for years, so it’s fun to sit back and watch.Be sure to “Use Your Voice” and became a part of the show by calling (402) 327-1830. Hey yo! Fellow Bangs and Dags!In the 39th episode of the podcast we talk about what growth we have seen from this Nebraska basketball squad. What can we finally hang our hat on?Then we turn to the 3,000 point loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Well I guess it wasn’t THAT bad, but it sure felt like it. Well it definitely looked like it.After Iowa we talk about the 2 point loss to the 9th ranked team in the country. However, after everything we talked about I wanted to share with those of you one of my favorite (I think postgame) speeches I’ve ever heard that we referenced during the podcast.Be sure to download and subscribe to our podcast on whatever platform you prefer, and you’ll also get all of the other great, but not quite as great, Corn Nation Radio podcasts as well. This past Wednesday was National Signing Day...or it would have been, had it not been for those meddling kids.Sorry, I’ve been watching a ton of Scooby Doo with my son.The arrival of the “Early Signing Day” in December has pretty much negated the excitement of the first Wednesday in February. And since Scott Frost and Co. had such a terrific December, there wasn’t much for Corn Nation to discuss. But did that stop us? I don’t think so.In this episode, we are joined by Akelo Roberts, aka FloridaHusker, who lends some insight into both the Huskers’ recruiting class and the recruiting process from a player’s perspective. And what needs/targets do the Huskers have in the Class of 2021?Be sure to “Use Your Voice” and became a part of the show by calling (402) 327-1830. Nebraska loses to Penn State 76 - 64 and it wasn’t even that close.Nate and Kevin quickly chat about the game. Unfortunately, it was the seventh straight loss for the Fred Hoiberg led team.At the end of the podcast they talk about the Super Bowl as they recorded the podcast on Super Bowl Sunday. They kind of give their thoughts on the game even though you’ll be listening to it on Wednesday at the earliest. Then there is a quick discussion on the half-time show acts in the past and which ones they would enjoy or not.Be sure to download and subscribe to our podcast on whatever platform you prefer, and you’ll also get all of the other great, but not quite as great, Corn Nation Radio podcasts as well. This week on the Five Heart Podcast, Greg and Jon are joined by one of Corn Nation’s newer contributors, Bri Clark. Bri is a grade school teacher, and that makes some of Greg’s foul language a little awkward. A NE Nebraska native, Bri has fond memories of listening to Husker games on the radio, going to Memorial Stadium as a Husker student, and doesn’t mention Rex Burkhead as a favorite Husker (though she says later she forgot about him). We talk about roster and coaching staff changes. And farm animals. Be sure to “Use Your Voice” and became a part of the show by calling (402) 327-1830. Kevin and Nate are back with another episode as we remember Kobe Bryant and their favorite on-court memory happens to coincide that it’s the 2004 Detroit Pistons narrowly missing making it a sweep over the LA Lakers for the NBA title. But alas, tragic loss of life too early is always sad to witness, and we hope you all can use this opportunity to enjoy extra special moments with your loved ones as we are reminded how precious and short our time together can be.And with that, it was onto the most recent games since our last episode. Nate and Kevin remark on how the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are actually a pretty great team this season and how the Huskers gave it a fight. Kevin goes on a diatribe at Nate’s encouragement explaining in some (but no, not actually all detail) why he loathes Michigan with every fiber of his being. Some venting about how those arrogant jerks just don’t let reality sink into that smug superiority they surround themselves with ensues.A brief glance at the upcoming schedule of games and the lack of predictability both this team and the conference slate offers wraps this episode up. Oh, and one team in particular took a real punch to the groin in their depth chart. Tune in to find out who, and why!Be sure to download and subscribe to our podcast on whatever platform you prefer, and you’ll also get all of the other great, but not quite as great, Corn Nation Radio podcasts as well. Ken Jarecke is a highly accomplished, world-wide known photographer. This is from his Wikipedia page:Ken Jarecke is an American photo journalist, author, editor and war correspondent. He has worked in more than 80 countries and has been featured in Life magazine, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated and others. He was a White House photographer in the Ronald Reagan years, covered demonstrations from Tiananmen Square, the first Gulf War and shot nine Olympic games since 1988.I’m not sure how you get a better resume than that.Oh yeah, you create a fantastic photography book about Nebraska football! In this episode, Ken and I talk about:Why you’d better think really hard about whether you want to be a professional photographer.
Why sports photography is generic and boring.
War photography? Conflict photography?
Can you really change the world as a photojournalist?
Ken has a new youtube series interviewing photographers, photojournalists that you should really pay attention to.

Jon had a near-miss on his morning commute this week. Greg’s work truck is a barely-functioning POS. So we start the show swapping some car stories.Name-Image-Likeness is a hot topic these days, with legislation passed in California. Now one Nebraska State Senator is introducing legislation for student athletes to receive compensation. The Nebraska Men’s Basketball team (and the women’s, presumably, right Jill?) is in action in some big match-ups in the next week, with a road trip to Rutgers on Saturday and a home game against Michigan Tuesday on ESPNU.And we love you and hope you enjoy the show.Be sure to “Use Your Voice” and became a part of the show by calling (402) 327-1830.
