This week on the Five Heart Podcast, Jon and Greg are joined by Corn Nation Recruiting Writer Akelo Roberts. This is the same day that LB Chris Paul Jr decommits from Nebraska in lieu of someplace likely closer to home. That’s all speculation. Who knows. We sure as don’t.But there has been some positive action in recruiting during this 14-year pandemic (well, that’s how long it feels like, anyway). Akelo breaks down some of the athletes who have committed in the last couple of months.Be sure to “Use Your Voice” and became a part of the show by calling (402) 327-1830. We’re back with another episode of Of Bangarangs and Daggers! After a brief break since the interview with former kicker Eric Lueshen, Kevin is back hosting this week with fellow Nebrasketball writer Mitch Lohmeier. This week’s episode takes a look at our Nebraska Cornhuskers’ non-conference schedule that was released on Monday. We give our quick reaction to the beefed up list of opponents year two of the Coach Hoiberg era offers compared to last season’s, and list off some of the better match-ups to make sure to circle on the calendar. You can find the Corn Nation announcement of the schedule here, but in the meantime to help follow along with the episode, the schedule is thus:Nov. 2 Peru State College
Nov. 10 Cleveland State
Nov. 14 Purdue Fort Wayne
Nov. 19-22 Myrtle Beach Invitational (Bracket TBD)
Nov. 25 Lamar
Nov. 30-Dec. 2 B1G-ACC Challenge (Opponent TBD)
Dec. 12 Creighton
Dec. 19 Kansas State
Dec. 21 Kansas City
Dec. 29 Florida A&M
One notable team missing from the schedule after suggestions of a more regional non-conference slate being looked at (and promptly ignored) is the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks. So in light of the in-state option being left off the schedule, we asked Twitter what you thought and many of you seemed to agree that you wanted UNO on the docket. Perhaps Bill Moos will take note and make it happen next season! Please Subscribe!Be sure to download and subscribe to our podcast on whatever platform you prefer (that way you won’t miss next week’s very special episode), and you’ll also get all of the other great, but not quite as great, Corn Nation Radio podcasts as well. This episode I am joined by Eric Sorenson, a national college baseball writer who currently reports for D1Baseball.com.Eric and I talk about:The college baseball season that wasn’t. Eric would have been reporting on the CWS right now. I had hoped to be there as a photographer again.
How did an aborted season affect Will Bolt’s first year as Nebraska’s head baseball coaach?
How will having an extra year affect college baseball rosters and overall talent level?
Michigan’s Erik Bakich put together a plan for changing college baseball’s schedule so that games would start in mid-March and the College World Series would take place in late July. Bakich has received support from other coaches such as Vanderbilt’s Tim Corbin. Why is this a good thing for Big Ten baseball and Nebraska?
How much support has the proposal received?
What are the chances it is passed by the NCAA and implemented by college baseball?

We’re back with another episode of “Of Bangarangs and Daggers.” This week we depart from our usual Nebrasketball coverage and talk with former Nebraska Cornhuskers football player Eric Lueshen. For those of you unfamiliar with Eric’s unique story as a Husker, we encourage you (after listening to this week’s episode of course) to take a look at some of his other SBNation coverage on his time as a Husker over at fellow SBNation website OutSports. You can find some of his writings here and here.[Drop Episode Embed Here]As for the conversation, we talk about a lot of interesting topics in this week’s episode. We start off with how Eric got into football and kicking along with his recruitment while being an out athlete in high school. We also do briefly talk about Eric’s basketball career to keep the pod on topic! After that we cover a little bit of everything in the interview. Have you ever wondered what it is like as a recruit or a player enduring a coaching change? What about experiencing bowl games as an athlete? How much do athletes interact among other teams? All of this and more is covered by Eric. Please Subscribe!Be sure to download and subscribe to our podcast on whatever platform you prefer (that way you won’t miss next week’s very special episode), and you’ll also get all of the other great, but not quite as great, Corn Nation Radio podcasts as well. Well friends, this week’s episode has more Covid-19 talk, how we’re doing and how the pandemic continues to affect us.But first: Let’s explore the idea of an XFL team in Lincoln or Omaha. Since Vince McMahon is attempting to buy back all of the XFL intellectual properties, we discuss the notion of an XFL team in Omaha...BECAUSE HAVING TEAMS IN SEVEN CITIES WHERE THE NFL ALREADY IS WASN’T WORKING!But if you think we are just kicking around XFL ideas, you’re wrong. We’re also discussing ways to get fans back into the stands. And what effects would not allowing fans in the stands have on the rest of the athletic department?A bit of sad news at the end of the show. In the click bait portion of the show, I’ not going to tel lyou what it is. But you should listen to it. It’s important.Be sure to “Use Your Voice” and became a part of the show by calling (402) 327-1830. We’re back with another episode of Bangarangs & Daggers! We have a special episode for you all tonight as the full three man weave got together for this one. Last week’s episode briefly mentioning who the “Blue Bloods” of college basketball sparked a fun but intense Slack debate between the three of us we couldn’t help but spill into this week’s episode. So, as you can tell from the title, we make our case for who the “Blue Bloods” of college basketball are. However, first we make our case as to “what” constitutes a blue blood. As for that, we generally settled on the following ranked criteria by importance:What makes a “Blue-Blood?”National Titles
Final Fours
NCAA Tournament Appearances
NCAA Tournament Win Percentage
Conference Titles
Conference Win Percentage
Conference Tournament Titles
Overall wins
(Any or all of this criteria is thrown out the window when arguing about certain teams we, aka Kevin, do not like of course)
So let us know in the comments who you think are blue bloods of college basketball, and who you think are the over-hyped programs. Who is almost to blue blood status but still has work to do? Here is what Twitter had to say:Lastly, be sure to tune in again next week for a very special interview with a former Husker! In the meantime, have a great week in between. Please Subscribe!Be sure to download and subscribe to our podcast on whatever platform you prefer (that way you won’t miss next week’s very special episode), and you’ll also get all of the other great, but not quite as great, Corn Nation Radio podcasts as well.
