Egad.I, Jon Johnston, finally returned to the podcast after having been in Texas for a few weeks previous. I spent some of my time living in a RV in my brother’s yard in Dallas. It was a much better experience than staying in his house where he insists anything below 76 degrees will cause hypothermia. When I set the zoom meeting up for the podcast, I jokingly referred to it as “Return of the King”, which as you know, is one of the books of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Now Greg named the podcast that. And now this article is named that. And here we are.Greg, Todd, and I get together and do an update on Husker sports. There’s many additions to the coaching staff, new players and I sat in a RV thinking a lot about what my perspective is on Scott Frost as our head coach.I am on record as saying Scott Frost needs to be fired. I would be happy to be wrong, but I don’t think whatever changes Frost has made will save his job next season.I thought a lot about this. I ask myself, “What If I’m Wrong” and we have a decent discussion about that.I wonder what would happen if Scott Frost just left the offense alone like he clearly did the defense. We have a decent discussion about that. While in Texas, I became convinced I need to buy 27 guns. And I talk about a trip to Waco, Texas. And Virtual Reality headsets. We do updates on Nebrasketball, women’s basketball kicking , and our hope for baseball season.Give it a listen. Learn more about your ad choices. Jon’s on the road for this week’s recording, so it’s Greg, “as always” Todd, and we’re joined by Corn Nation’s RanchBabe, Jill!We discuss rumors (they were rumors Wednesday night) of Tony Tuioti’s departure for Oregon. IT was made official on Thursday, and we feel it’s a big loss for the coaching staff.Husker volleyball is discussed, coming off their national runner-up finish last weekend. We toast John Cook and the entire program. Now while you were folliwing the volleyball program through the post-season, it may have escaped you that your Husker women’s basketball team is 12-0 (the 12th win coming Wednesday afternoon against Wyoming). Jill is our resident expert on all things WBB (just one of the many hats she wears at CN) and gets us up to speed on what the team has been doing to get to this hot start. They are idle until 12/30 when they travel north to take on Michigan State and begin the Big Ten schedule in earnest (they’re 1-0 in conference play with a win over Minnesota). So enjoy, GBR, and Merry Christmas. This time it’s Greg and I for this episode of the Five Heart Podcast because Todd chose to go hide in his basement instead of join us.I’m still in Texas. I am living in a RV in Dallas in my brother’s yard. I had one brother in Austin, another in Dallas. The brother in Austin (Georgetown) is gone now, dying of colon cancer a very short time after his initial diagnosis. Mrs CN and I flew to Dallas to attend his service, now I’m back in Dallas doing IT work for another week.Last Friday we went to Waco, which was interesting, particularly the “Seige of Waco” site. You get a story about that visit that is rather... weird.Greg and I review the volleyball team’s success, the men’s basketball team suck, and then head into Nebraska football recruiting. There’s some good, there’s some bad. Some key points about this recruiting class:Name a play who can help Nebraska immediately next season. (There isn’t one...)
You can make this case this is a terrible class and the portal is not helping Nebraska get better
You can make the case Nebraska picked up some key players in the class AND the portal

This week on a very special Five Heart Podcast (it’s a day early, y’all), Todd and Greg are talking with our very own Beth Merrigan about volleyball as the Huskers play Illinois in the Sweet Sixteen tonight. Beth provides insight that we should all appreciate now while it’s free because eventually someone is going to actually pay her for her knowledge and analysis. She says she’s not going anywhere, but Jon can’t compete financially with the big dogs.In other words - we are so thankful for Beth and can’t wait to watch Nebraska and Illinois lock up tonight in Austin. Then after a quick commercial timeout, Greg is joined by two other Corn Nation writers, Tyler and Brian, to discuss the hiring of Mark Whipple and Donovan Raiola as Offensive Coordinator and O-Line Coach respectively. They two also offer brief thoughts on the Mickey Joseph hire from last week. And there’s plenty of speculation regarding visiting quarterbacks to Lincoln from the Transfer Portal. So we discuss a few of those names, all of whom would be relatively welcome in Lincoln (at least until that first INT or fumble - editor’s notes).Enjoy the show. Our sincere apologies that this one isn’t on YouTube this week. But we’ll make it up to you someday...maybe. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

It looks like Nebraska will hire an offensive coordinator and the rest of the staff by the end of the week - Friday the 10th. This is a pretty tight fit given that early signing day is December 15th.Graham Harrell is rumored to be at the top of the list. That is an odd choice give his Air Raid background.Steve Sipple earlier today said Frost and Matt Davison are out interviewing.I have no idea why Davison is heavily involved in this.A short review of the Big Ten Championship where Michigan destroyed Iowa 42-3.Pheldarius Payne entered the transfer portal.College football playoff discussion. I wish they would have stuck Georgia and Alabama in a semifinal so we don’t have an ALL SEC National title game.I reference several chat questions and try my best to answer them. So join me every Monday night for a bit. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

I started doing a live streaming show on Monday nights at 7:30 PM. I’ll probably keep doing it through basketball and baseball season. Maybe. We’ll see how things go. It’s not like I have a plan, this is like everything else I do - made up as I go.I’m a pantser, dammit!Anyway. Last night our own Brian Johannes joined me to discuss potential Nebraska offensive coaches.I started off the show being triggered by this tweet!$110M at USC!That’s a lot of tacos! Or pho!Or maybe not. Do California dollars translate well to the real world?Brian has taken the time to look at potential offensive coordinators. I pretend I have, but mostly I let Brian do all the talking.Brian has a YouTube channel you should subscribe to!Corn Nation has a YouTube channel you should subscribe to! Greg, Todd, and I join forces in this episode to review the Wisconsin game and look forward to the Iowa game.Todd has a special guest join us and we talk way too long about our frustration with this football team. And how much we hate Iowa. And how we don’t understand why Scott frost has handled players in the way he has.Why wasn’t Logan Smothers given more playing time before now?Why was Brody Belt given as much playing time is he’s had?We wonder about the madness of an entire season of one score games.Just how lousy is Iowa’s offense? Discussed. Finally, we give our predictions!Join us for a very long episode of the Five Heart podcast! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
