The Monday Night Show was happening during the Dallas Cowboys - Tampa Bay Buccaneers playoff game, which somewhat prompted Todd and I to start talking about the NFL playoffs. There have been some amazing games. Todd pointed out the Baltimore Ravens’ 300-pound fullback, while I was envious of their offensive linemen pulling during plays. Quarterbacks and the NFL offenses are much more exciting than they’ve been in my lifetime. The NFL is fun to watch. This wasn’t true a few years ago. This brought up a discussion of fullbacks (of course) and the question - What is a NFL offense? There have been several updates to Nebraska’s roster:Walter Rouse flipped to Oklahoma
Nebraska picked up a highly sought after OLB from Georgia - M.J. Sherman
Receiver Zavier Betts might return to the team
Isiah Garcia-Castaneda — withdrew from portal and it appears he will rejoin the team
Matt Rhule hired Susan Elza to be Chief of StaffWhat’s a Chief of Staff do? Will Rhule hire a press secretary? I hope so.Nebraska Wrestling:Todd watched as Nebraska beat Minnesota and Northwestern, both higher ranked at the time.
Todd brings up his past wrestling exploits, including how he was crushed by the insidious Flying Salami Brothers while a member of Schramm 6
All the wrestling talk conjured up the names Mad Dog Vachon and Baron Von Raschke. I met the Baron a few years ago. This is the full story of that meeting.
Brett Maher missed four PATs as Dallas stomped the Tampa Bay Bucs. That’s shocking. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Have you purchased your Pipeline Jerky? Nebraska’s going to need it.It was announced this week that Stanford OL transfer Walter Rouse will be continuing his college football career at Nebraska. With his arrival as well as OL Ben Scott, the Nebraska offensive line got a bolster. The topic comes up about which position group is the healthiest and which still needs some help. And the NCAA also came out with some updated regulated as far as transfer portal jumpers are concerned. So there’s a lot of transfer portal talk. There’s a little about wrestling, the women’s basketball team and Kendall Moriarty’s amazing shot, and a vacated Big Ten Commissioner role. Also - no more onside kick jokes, please. It’s a Monday Night Therapy Session on Tuesday, moved because of the national title game.Unfortunately, the national title game wasn’t worth the time. Todd said about this, “Georgia was there to win a championship. TCU was just glad to be there.”We probably spent more time talking about the game, and its implications than we spent actually watching the game. At one point I played part of Kirby Smart’s pre-game speech, which is deliciously full of NSFW words. We spent a lot of time talking about our new coordinators... Marcus Satterfield’s comments about running the ball, huddling, and using a fullback. Tony White’s use of the 3-3-5 spurred a lot of discussion, as TCU uses a 3-3-5 and they were run over like deer in the headlights.Nebraska lost out on Baylor transfer Micah Mazzccua, who decided to go to Florida. There’s been no word yet on Walter Rouse, the Stanford offensive tackle.Nebraska picked up a portal transfer wide receiver, Billy Kemp from Virginia. And finally, we finished by talking about whether you should cheer for your conference. Please Support My Cause!I am jumping in a frozen lake on January 28th to show solidarity with my co-workers and to raise money for the Minnesota Special Olympics.DONATE HERE AND HELP ME HIT MY GOAL Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of the Five Heart Podcast, Greg and Jon discuss the Big Ten’s clear superiority over other conferences, especially the SEC. How can that be?We hate each other. We don’t rally around the sole survivor and chant B-I-G! B-I-G! We partake of the timeless act of schadenfreude. We revel in our rivals’ misery. The guys also talk about late additions to Nebraska’s recruiting class and the fact that apparently the Huskers have commits from four (4) 4-star defensive linemen.Lots of great input by the live audience. The type of input that I can’t specify, as it was all outstanding. We also take a quick look at the College Football Championship and make our predictions as well as take the viewers’. Todd was a little late and I was a little freaked out at the start, but overall, things turned out pretty well.We covered a number of subjects:Men’s basketball beating up Iowa, which they did. It was an -kicking. Bowl game wrap upIowa and the Ferentz situation. Will Brian Ferentz be fired? Will Kirk retire?
Purdue being annihilated by LSU 63-7. What was the point of playing this game when everyone including the head coach of Purdue opted out? The Boilers should have just opted out of the game and given someone else a shot.
Georgia’s win over Ohio State. Did anyone field bad for the Buckeyes?
USC’s embarrassing letdown against Tulane. It was beautiful.
Nebraska football newsAnthony Grant officially announced he is returning next season. With Ajay Allen back, Nebraska’s running back room is loaded.
Rhule has completed his coaching staff. Bob Wager from Texas is his tight ends coach and today two more were reported.
Finally, Todd and I spent the latter half of the show doing predictions for 2023 Nebraska athletics. The predictions are BOLD. AWESOME. You should listen. Or watch. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

It’s another episode of the Five Heart Podcast.Let me just say - God Bless Jon. Hi friends. It’s Greg Mehochko here. Founder and host of the Five Heart Podcast. I was not able to be on the show this week as with about 10 minutes to show time, one of my not-yet-two-year—old twins was just losing his ever loving mind. I couldn’t make a sound without him screaming, and that wouldn’t have made for a very fun show for you. With almost no time to spare, I pleaded in the CN Slack for anyone to step in my place. No one was available on such short notice. So this episode is a two-character show - Jon Johnston and the viewers feeding him comments and questions.Among the topics discussed are Huskers declaring for the draft, a little bit more on recruiting, and the upcoming bowl games.I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, doing this show live is probably the most fun version of the show. But that means it’s not as flexible on the recording day/time as it used to be. So we appreciate you stepping in and being there for Jon when I could not be.GBR. Learn more about your ad choices. Todd and I present you with another episode of our Monday Night Therapy Show.We discuss the latest in Husker News And News Around College Football, including:Chancellor Brewington declared NFL DraftThe PORTAL - How many Nebraska players found a place to get since leaving Nebraska? Not many.Who is our favorite new guy?Jon has issues with pronouncing the name “Malachi”... which is quite puzzling.Former Texas quarterback Hudson Card is transferring to Purdue to play for new coach Ryan WaltersIt appears that Iowa has shunned their biggest NIL collective. They want the 70s back. 80s? 90s? They want you to get off their damned lawn, that’s for sure.Matt Rhule’s Coaching Staff - there are a whole gob of new guys on Rhule’s staff. One guy has a law enforcement background. We take a guess at what his job will be. Another guy is a “General Manager”. We talk about what that guy is going to do for Matt Rhule.Jon had props for this show, including an industrial-sized jar of cheese balls, and a white elephant gift that shows someone using a tiny brass metal outhouse while a chime plays “The Way We Were” or “Memories” or whatever that song is called. I did the show from my hometown of Curtis, Nebraska, so it wasn’t my regular studio mic and setting. Todd joined late from somewhere in Iowa. The show is about recruiting. Matt Rhule has picked up a huge number of recruits in a very short time, and that doesn’t happen without some hard work.Todd and I discuss the recruits, what Rhule’s offense might look like, Deion Sanders ability to recruit and coach at Colorado, and Todd goes off on a bit about how great soccer and the World Cup are.Gunnar Gottula, OT, 6’6” 290, Lincoln, Neb. Surprisingly, there's a lot to discuss this week on the brand new Five Heart Podcast. Nebraska Men's Basketball takes the (now) #1 team in the country to overtime before losing a close one. We'll be joined by Corn Nation Basketball Writer and Letterkenny fan Patrick Gerhart to discuss what feels like upward trajectory for Fred Hoiberg's squad.Elsewhere in Lincoln this week, Trev Alberts announced changes to the layout of Memorial Stadium as well as reduced season ticket prices. I smell a sellout streak continuing.Husker football grew this week with transfer portal acquisitions as well as commitments from outside the portal as Matt Rhule continues to build his first Nebraska roster. And since Jon and Todd's Monday Night Therapy, the sports world lost a great coach and character with the passing of Mike Leach. And GBR.
