Tonight is BASH IOWA NIGHT!
It’s time to get ready for the upcoming 2023 Nebraska football season. Join us as we make fun of our opponents because we can.
And if you happen to be an Iowa, Minnesota, or whatever fan and want to throw some slag our way, have at it. We’re not exclusive!
OH. And in other news:
I am 8 years old today. 8 years ago, August 21, 2015 I was dead for 20 minutes from a widow maker heart attack.
So when people tell me to act my age, I am.

This week on the Five Heart Podcast, Greg and Jon discuss the new allowance of single-digit uniform numbers as instituted by Head Coach Matt Rhule. Also, season ticket holders received their physical copy tickets this week. Not only did the Athletic Department hear the cries of the people and bring back physical tickets, they are enhanced with digital extras.
We discussed changes in the Big Ten, including the possibility of the championshpi game being played in Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, Chip Kelly has an idea of doing away with conferences and having two large divisions (made up of Power Five and Group of Five schools) and letting them battle it out. And to that I say...bring on relegation!
One of our commenters gave us some Superchat $$$ and asked about our worst away game experience. Jon tells the story of his, noting that his wife still gets angry about it every time it comes up in conversations.
Furthermore, Colorado social media is just silly sometimes. And Jon gives us details on the Mn4NE gathering before the first game of the season. More info on that is here!!!
The comments were lively once again this week!

This week, Jon’s in a lodge somewhere watching Cocaine Bear with and and reacting accordingly, so Greg called in some familiar faces to join him on the show this week.
Todd is here, and he’s supposed to play the role of the crotchety old man, but he’s surprisingly pleasant and upbeat. And making his Five Heart debut is legendary Husker fan and all-around superb individual Brett Baker. Brett shares his thoughts on the Day by Day documentary among other Husker topics.
One of the main topics, predictably, is the alternate uniforms that were revealed this week in a stellar video package. Owning the fact that 100 years ago, Nebraska donned blue uniforms to welcome Oklahoma, because THEY BOTH CAN’T WEAR RED, the Huskers will have a thin blue outline around the numbers for one game in October. But Greg is more impressed by the details on the shoulders, as they replicate the four stone carvings around Memorial Stadium. Brett however thinks the thin blue line isn’t enough and wants Nebraska to fully embrace the blue...for one game only.
Also, and I can’t believe I’m saying this...we haven’t seen the blackshirts yet. What is Matt Rhule’s plan on one of the more storied traditions within the program?
These topics and others are all part of an all-new Five Heart Podcast.

I prompted Leonardo.ai something like “Matt Rhule riding into Memorial Stadium on a unicorn, looking like a savior” and THERE YOU ARE!]
Todd starts the show by getting his frustration out on people who were rooting for the USWNT to lose. I hide under the desk for a bit.
Then we go into an update on what’s happening with Nebraska football’s fall camp. Tommi Hill, lots of linemen talk, lots of comments from our viewers. Everybody is in better shape.
A commenter asked what we could expect different from this year from Donovan Raiola and the offensive line. They get an answer.
We spend the latter part of the show talking about the Pac 12, because... well, it effects all of college football. Todd is sad that Stanford is being left out. I am not because they did this to themselves as a result of crappy leadership.
Then there’s the news today that Cal and Stanford might join the ACC.
I think that’s silly.

The following happened over the past few days: Northwestern released that they had complete an investigation into hazing
Northwestern announced they’d suspended head football coach Pat Fitzgerald for two weeks without pay
The Northwestern student newspaper published a story where two football players gave details about said hazing
The internet exploded because the details were rather.... well, frankly, sick.
The ENTIRE Northwestern football team denied the student newspaper story. Kind of.
Northwestern president Michael Schill stated he might have been too lenient.
Northwestern has fired Pat Fitzgerald.
And then Nebraska had some baseball players get drafted. So yeah, we’re gonna talk about it.AT 8 PM CENTRAL TONIGHT LIVE ON YOUTUBE! It’s Monday Night Therapy! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

This week on the Five Heart Podcast, Greg and Jon will get caught up on the last few weeks of podcast off-season homework. If you missed those shows, here's a little recap of the assignments:The top former Huskers who no longer qualify for "once a Husker, always a Husker" status. You know what I mean. Either through decisions made on the field or off, they've brought a level of shame and disrespect to themselves and Nebraska. Secondly, we're taking another look at the Tunnelwalk, specifically the song to which our beloved Huskers take the field. The Alan Parsons Project's 'Sirius.' But in a world where Wisconsin jumps around and Virginia Tech welcomes the Sandman, what song options are out there that could fit Nebraska and appease the greatest number of fans?Jon wrote a beautiful country song he shared, entitled "Always Stay Winner, Herbie", which includes this incredible stanza: There's a whisper in the Nebraska breezeReminding me of winningThat whisper buildsThat whisper criesWinning in the morning skies------------The Chatterfields are here bringing these topics and more, but we've made it to July and we're all still alive and drinking various strengths of kool-aid. The Five Heart Live Show was last night at 8 PM. It was told to us last week that Tweedy would not be able to be a regular, because he has a family and they’re awake when he does the show. Who would have thought that he’d rather spend time with his wife and child than with a couple crusty old timers? We will likely be moving the show to 8 PM Central from here on, because it’s much more feasible for us. Nate McHugh from this beloved web site joined us for this episode. If you’ve been living under a rock the past 36 hours, you may not know that Carter Nelson, the tight end from Ainsworth, NE, committed to the Huskers. The top prospect in the state joins the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ranked prospects, and five of the top six. This indicates a shift of priority for Nebraska coaches, or at least a shift in outcome. Maybe the days of losing Nebraska kids to Iowa and Wisconsin are over. We had a lively discussion about recruiting, including Nate pointing out that Rhule’s modus operandi of taking unranked and unknown recruits will be what we’ll be complaining about if Rhule fails as Nebraska’s head coach. (HE WON’T FAIL DAMMIT). There were questions and a discussion about Big Ten expansion - specifically whether or not the Big Ten would add two more Pac 12 schools. We were asked what we thought Nebraska’s record will be after the first three games. There was a lot more, including Nate’s joke of a lifetime about Ndamukong Suh. The comments were great! Nebraska has new football recruits! Bellevue West receivers Dae’Vonn Hall and Isaiah McMorris have chosen to join teammate quarterback Danny Kaelin. Nebraska football added a New Jersey kicker/punter to its 2024 recruiting class as Nico Ottomanelli joined our beloved Huskers as a walk-on. He is the #1 kicker in New Jersey, whatever that means. CornNation’s volleyball writer Beth Merrigan will join us for an update on Nebraska’s most successful sport. The College World Series is finishing up with the title game Monday Night. Former Husker running back Dahrran Diedrick passed away recently at the age of 44. He rushed for a career-high, 1,299 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2001, which was the last time Nebraska played in a National Champion Game. He won 2 CFL Grey Cups with the Montreal Alouettes. I don’t know if you are aware, but Matt Rhule and Co. have been busy this month on the recruiting trail, getting started on the Class of ‘24. In this episode, Greg and Jon discuss some of the players who have given verbal commitments to the Huskers thus far. Also, it’s a big night in Omaha as Wake Forest and LSU battle it out in the College World Series, so we’ll see how much Jon actually pays attention to us. As always, your questions and comments. If I had to guess, someone will ask about the curse and someone else will ask for our way-too-early season predictions (12-0, am I right?). But we’re here for it, and we’re here for you. GBR. Nebraska QB recruit Danny Kaelin became the first-ever Husker Elite11 quarterback recruit. On top of that, Nebraska received 3 commits Sunday, two of which had no national ranking whatsoever. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
