Jon didn’t provide a write-up for this week’s show, so I’m winging it. Here’s all he said on YouTube.
In this very special episode Todd and I will review the Nebraska - Louisiana Tech game. Then we will ponder what is happening with the rest of the Big Ten West, particularly what kind of living hellscape it has become.
So, I think it’s safe to say that there was some discussion on the 28-14 win over Louisiana Tech. The good, the bad...the areas that need improvement. I have a pretty good idea that Todd ranted about the offensive line.
The Wolverines are in town this weekend. The number-two ranked team in all the land brings Nebraska’s toughest opponent to date and the best team Nebraska will likely face all year.
And the Big Ten West is STILL anyone’s division. It’s there for the taking, but that must include winning winnable games. And Iowa lost 41-0 to Penn State, so schadenfreude, yada yada.

Two of the top three running backs are gone for the season. One starting quarterback has committed 328 turnovers in 2 games. The other won a game while looking better than expected, but not necessarily being great.
In this episode, Jon and Greg discuss some of the issues facing Nebraska, mainly the loss of Gabe Ervin Jr and Rahmir Johnson for the remainder of the season. Also - QB controversy. Do you put Jeff Sims back in after all the turnovers he allowed in the first two games? Or do you run with Heinrich Haarberg who led Nebraska to a win over Northern Illinois last week?
Also, the Chatterfields altered the course of the entire show by asking Jon about his hair care routine, which may or may not (probably not) lead to a line of hair and skincare products.
And with the exception of a rogue Colorado fan, everyone predicts a Nebraska win over Louisiana Tech.

This Monday Night Therapy episode was a mixed bag.
Nebraska played excellent football (or as well as we’ve seen for a while) against Northern Illinois in a 35-11 victory. There is plenty of discussion and comments about the game, including how much fun it was (for me) to not freak out every time the offense snapped the ball.
Did you know Heinrich Haarberg’s nickname is “H”??
That does not sound like a nickname.
There’s plenty of discussion about whether Jeff Sims should start Saturday’s game against Louisiana Tech. Todd says, yes, that Sims should start. He doesn’t necessarily defend Sims, but he tells us what he believes is going to happen.
Unfortunately, the news today is that running backs Gabe Ervin and Rahmir Johnson are out for the season, along with defensive back Dwight Bootle.
This leads to a lot of discussion about the running back room, including whether Jeff Sims should be moved to running back. That answer is a resounding “NO” because we’ll still need healthy quarterbacks to get through this season.

This week on Corn Nation’s Over Reaction, Greg and Hoss had a tougher opponent in stable internet connection than the Huskers had in the Huskies if Northern Illinois.
Nebraska wins 35-11, but really the starting defense only gave up three points, and that was the offense’s fault. So, a solid showing by the defense.
Hoss says the offensive line is getting better, and as some of the linemen heal up, offers an ideal lineup that could be an improvement.
Greg dropped out of the show accidentally and it became a struggle to keep the show going. but Hoss was able to give his thoughts on Heinrich Haarberg. Basically, the job [should be] his until he no longer deserves it.
Enjoy the show. It’s late and I am tired.

This time around on the Five Heart Podcast, Jon and I help put the Colorado game behind you. I’ll tell you what I tell my twins when they are freaking out and crying:
DEEP BREATHS! IT WILL BE OKAY!
And it will.
Someday.
Look, we can’t do anything about the past. We can only choose one path of the few options we have in front of us. We either continue to suck it up, take the lumps, and celebrate extra hard when Nebraska returns.
OR
We can throw in the towel, cut our losses, and go root for another team. Plenty of 2-0 teams out there.
I’ll paraphrase the Bible and the Book of Joshua, where instead of saying “serve the Lord” I’ll say “as for me and my house, we will cheer for the Huskers.” It doesn’t roll of the tongue as well, but I’m not a Husker fan for our amazing cheers. I’ll be along for the ride.
And this week, the ride takes us to Lincoln for Nebraska’s home opener, Matt Rhule’s Memorial Stadium debut, and if I have my way, a win over Northern Illinois.
On the show this week we will talk about the Huskies, the overall feeling of the fanbase right now, and I’ll try to have a fun video in the mix as well.
Chatterfields...be ready.

Nebraska lost to Colorado 36-14. Or did they? Are we sure they didn’t lose to Nebraska 36-14? That seems more likely.
Then there’s the disrespect bit that Deion Sanders pulled, copied and pushed further by his son/quarterback/immature boob Shedeur. Todd wasn’t as bothered by it as I was, although he doesn’t like the “make up disrespect” method of motivation either. It bothered me because they slandered my head coach Matt Rhule.
There was plenty of discussion about Nebraska football. Around 300 commenters were online, and it was difficult to keep up with the comments. Plenty of questions were asked.
There were many questions about whether or not we thought Nebraska could still go bowling, and the answer is yes. Have you seen our opponents play?
Now - in order to do that, Matt Rhule has to figure out the offense and we must score at least 25 points per game from here on out. If we can’t do that, we’re not going bowling.

The Battle for the Soul of the Nation, I believe one colleague put it on Corn Nation. The epitome of all that is good in the world and, well...Colorado.
36 to 14.
This one will haunt us for some time. Turnovers that led to Buffalo points. A field goal that clangs off the upright. bonehead error after bonehead error.
But a defense that did its best to keep the game close to try to give the Nebraska offense a legitimate shot at putting something together.
To hell with the history between these two schools and that rivalry. The only game in the 120+ year history of Nebraska vs Colorado that matters is the one that was just played, and Nebraska couldn’t get it done.
Glimpses of offensive competence that are mired in a scheme that has not worked to put many points on the board in 2023. Nebraska is averaging 12ppg through the first two games, and that may only be good enough against Iowa.

Well, clearly the Matt Rhule Era did not begin the way Matt Rhule, his staff, the Huskers, or Husker Nation had hoped. If you missed the Corn Nation Over Reaction episode, you can get it here.

This week on the Five Heart Podcast on a Special Night because of a Chiefs game on Thursday, Jon and Greg are joined by a recently returned Hoss Reuter. Hoss has thoughts. He has notes. And like Greg, he has optimism.
Plus, we’ll hear about Jon’s in-stadium experience being in the belly of the beast last week for the game against Minnesota.
And we look forward to Colorado, a team that came in with a ton of hype and apparently answered the call, winning on the road against a Top 20 TCU squad. Coach Prime kept receipts. But we’ll find out this weekend if he actually listens to the Five Heart Podcast.

This is the first Corn Nation Over Reaction full episode in two years, or ever since Jon’s tree-side and bathroom videos became so popular.
This week, Hoss Freakin’ Reuter is back as he and Greg discuss Nebraska’s 13-10 season opening loss to at Minnesota. What went wrong? What went right? And who’s to blame?
Hear the guys break down offense and defense, as only Hoss can do. And we get caught up on what has been going on with Hoss in the last year or so.
The duo breaks down all of the controversy, from Gabe Ervin Jr’s near touchdown to Minnesota’s game-tying score late. Are we panicking? Can the mistakes be cleaned up?
What do you do when your biggest adversary is yourself?

Nebraska Football is finally here. On the heels of Volleyball Day in Nebraska, Jon, Jarek, and Greg bring you the last show before the season. Think about this...we’ve spent the entire off-season building to this point. The last time we did a show this close to a Nebraska football game, we were celebrating the 24-17 win over Iowa.
Since then, the team has seen the interim head coach be arrested, the new head coach announced and with that announcement, subsequent assistant coach hires. The transfer portal, the signing of one of the most electrifying talents in the state in Malachi Coleman, spring football, attrition, and more.
It has truly brought us all to this. It’s the day before Nebraska’s first game. It’s the galvanizing moment each year when hope springs eternal and some say “I’m not ready to love again.”
But all of the talking is done as Nebraska and Minnesota will battle tomorrow night for the vaunted $5 Bits of Broken Chair Trophy, an icon of what makes college football truly great.
It’s the Five Heart Podcast. It’s live. It’s beautiful. And it’s free to most people.
