No one to blame but myself. I failed to create the stream for this week’s episode, and Jon had to do it. Here’s what he left me with:
"We will discuss Nebraska football. And soccer. And maybe men's basketball, as the season approaches. Or Volleyball. But there will be things going on."
WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THAT?
So here’s how the episode ran down. We did talk about Nebraska football. We talked about Greg’s experience at the Nebraska-Illinois game. How about the defensive stand on the goalline? How about three straight turnovers? How about that damn defense?!? And how many more games on the season are “winnable?”
Paul in the comments wants to talk about volleyball, so we do. And we quickly learned that not everyone was in the mood to talk volleyball.
Hell, we discussed more women’s soccer than we did Nebrasketball.
But perhaps the highlight of the whole show came at the end. There was a minor thread throughout after someone made a Young Guns reference. Some of the Super Chatterfields had been a little generous. And Jon said he hated the movie.
One of the Chatterfields asked how much of a SuperChat it would take for Jon to do a live reaction video to Young Guns. Jon responded with $100. So that’s where I threw out a challenge - if we could get a total of $100 in SuperChats, of which we will donate to Team Jack or something similar, we would schedule a live stream. And OUT OF NOWHERE, “Marcus” drops a hundo SuperChat and made the dream a reality. So that’s on the way very soon.

Monday Night Therapy: Illinois Win & Midseason Review!

Nebraska gets a win against Illinois on Friday night in Champaign.
It was ugly. Really ugly, but it’s a win.
Now our beloved Huskers are on a bye week.
The season is half over, Nebraska is 3-3. It’s time to assess how far the team has come so far!

Corn Nation Over Reaction: For Huskers, an Ugly Win is Still a Win

This week’s episode has Greg and Hoss giving their thoughts on Nebraska’s 20-7 road win over Illinois.
The victory is Nebraska’s third on the season and first in the Big Ten. But with a well-positioned bye week, there should be plenty of hope building as opponents like Northwestern, Purdue, and Michigan State loom.
Greg was at the game in Champaign with his oldest son, and that wind was no joke. Biting and right in their faces, minutes after the opening kick off, the son asked if the trio could leave and go home, lamenting that watching the game on the tv in a warm house seems like a better proposition. He’s seven. He admitted to Greg (okay, Me, I’m Greg) that he only agreed to go to the game to make me happy and that he didn’t really want to be there. He’s a great kid with a big heart. I don’t often give him enough credit. And so it was up to me to keep him as warm as possible throughout the game. We stayed until Nebraska was in the victory formation.
Hoss and I talk about the defense, and how the goalline stand was a turning point in the game and maybe in the season, as that is a moment that a team can build off of for confidence. While some writers said Nebraska didn’t “want” it enough last week against Michigan, I’m not sure how much “want” it would have taken to overcome the obvious gap in talent. But this Tony White defense is full of WANT. They are the horse we are riding for the rest of the season, and the team will go only as far as the defense can carry them.
The offense did just enough to not lose the game (looking at those last three meaningful drives before the victory formation), and local Champaign headlines Saturday read something like “Illinois lost a game Nebraska Tried to Give Away.” If Nebraska doesn’t turn the ball over, and if freshman Tristan Alvano doesn’t miss that FG attempt, a 20-7 win could have been a 44-7 win. But if “if’s” and “but’s” were candies and nuts, we’d all have a Merry Christmas.” The point is...this Nebraska team is improving. And I think they will continue to improve even more as they hopefully get healthier in the off-week.

Our beloved Huskers are on the road for a Friday night game in Champaign. They are winless in the last three attempts against the Illini. However, the last time they played Illinois in Champaign on a Friday night, Nebraska was victorious. It was 2017. It shouldn’t seem like so long ago.
So why do we have games on Friday night? What is Nebraska’s chance of winning? Who will stand out in the game?
Will we even answer these questions? It seems like we write them in this pre-show post but we never address them in the show.

Monday Night Therapy: Does Nebraska Know How To Win?

We had a helluva show and I need to start doing these articles ahead of the show and not after them.
Todd and I did a review of the Michigan game, driven by our commenters questions. Both of us agreed it was an incredibly flat game. Fans left by the droves at halftime, largely because there was little to cheer for, and putting up with the sun was a nightmare.
I tried to make Todd guess statistics comparisons between Nebraska and Illinois. For example, what are the two teamed ranked nationally in turnover margin?
I bet you guessed Nebraska low and Illinois not as low. WRONG. Both teams are tied at 125th because both teams are turnover machines.
What about scoring offense? Nebraska is 122nd. Illinois, 105th. So, it’s not like they’re a scoring juggernaut.
I went on a long diatribe about comments I’ve seen where people think we should spend $450M on NIL instead of renovating the stadium. I’m not going to spew all the details here, listen to the podcast! Watch the Youtube video!
Then there’s the discussion about whether Nebraska knows how to win.

Corn Nation Over Reaction: Michigan Was Flat Out Better

It wasn’t meant to be.
Nebraska wasn’t so much upended by #2 Michigan on Saturday as they were simply beaten soundly.
In this episode of Corn Nation Over Reaction, Hoss states that Michigan is where Nebraska can be. But these changes take time and patience. Jim Harbaugh is in his ninth year at Michigan, and it took to his seventh year to beat Ohio State. And in Ann Arbor, you can go 11-1 and be considered a failure if that loss is to OSU.
Hoss says that Marcus Satterfield’s logic, scheme, and gameplan offensively is sound. But at this point, it’s not about the X’s and O’s, but rather the Jimmy’s and Joe’s.
The guys lament the loss a little bit. Heinrich Haarberg could adjust his release point some, as that might help minimize the passes batted down (or up for grabs) at the line of scrimmage.
However, the guys realize that there won’t be a large disparity in talent anywhere else on the schedule. It’s time to bounce back and rally and make a run into positive territory towards bowl eligibility.

In this episode of the Five Heart Podcast, Greg and I cover the latest news, and the upcoming Michigan game. We get a LOT of help from the online commenters, the Chatterfields.
The University of Nebraska and our beloved overlord Trev Alberts announced a $450M renovation to begin after the 2024 season and complete just before the 2026 season.
There are going to be tons of updates:
Less seating, but better seating.
A better place for the students.
More and better concessions.
Modernized restrooms.
There’s a long list.
Then there’s #2 Michigan coming to town. They have an offense. They have a defense. They have a host of guys targeted to go in the NFL draft next year.
How can Nebraska beat them?

Corn Nation Over Reaction: A Duct Tape Win over LA Tech

No gAbe Ervin Jr. No Rahmir Johnson. No Dwight Bootle.
Yes, Heinrich Haarberg.
The Kid from Kearney started again and led Nebraska to a 28-14 win over Louisiana Tech, throwing for a score and galloping to another, accounting for 264 yards of offense, including a gem of a rushing TD. But Haarberg can’t do it all on his own.
Nebraska has the top rushing defense in the land and one of the better offensive rushing attacks. Hoss says he’s starting to appreciate Marcus Satterfield’s approach to coaching and play-calling, as Satt tends to lean into the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality, at least from the rushing game.
Michigan is calling. How optimistic are the guys?

Monday Night Therapy: Louisiana Tech Review And Nebraska’s Place in the Big Ten West!

Jon didn’t provide a write-up for this week’s show, so I’m winging it. Here’s all he said on YouTube.
In this very special episode Todd and I will review the Nebraska - Louisiana Tech game. Then we will ponder what is happening with the rest of the Big Ten West, particularly what kind of living hellscape it has become.
So, I think it’s safe to say that there was some discussion on the 28-14 win over Louisiana Tech. The good, the bad...the areas that need improvement. I have a pretty good idea that Todd ranted about the offensive line.
The Wolverines are in town this weekend. The number-two ranked team in all the land brings Nebraska’s toughest opponent to date and the best team Nebraska will likely face all year.
And the Big Ten West is STILL anyone’s division. It’s there for the taking, but that must include winning winnable games. And Iowa lost 41-0 to Penn State, so schadenfreude, yada yada.

Five Heart Podcast 345: Quarterback, Running Backs, And The Bulldogs Await

Two of the top three running backs are gone for the season. One starting quarterback has committed 328 turnovers in 2 games. The other won a game while looking better than expected, but not necessarily being great.
In this episode, Jon and Greg discuss some of the issues facing Nebraska, mainly the loss of Gabe Ervin Jr and Rahmir Johnson for the remainder of the season. Also - QB controversy. Do you put Jeff Sims back in after all the turnovers he allowed in the first two games? Or do you run with Heinrich Haarberg who led Nebraska to a win over Northern Illinois last week?
Also, the Chatterfields altered the course of the entire show by asking Jon about his hair care routine, which may or may not (probably not) lead to a line of hair and skincare products.
And with the exception of a rogue Colorado fan, everyone predicts a Nebraska win over Louisiana Tech.
