This week’s Five Heart episode takes place on Greg’s wedding anniversary, so we are not 100% certain if he will be there. Now I’m not a betting man, but I’d bet on Greg being on the show.
We’ll get you updated on the recruiting situation. We’ll share what we know (and what we think) about the announced super sports streaming platform Venu Sports, the app that will house live sports from FOX, ESPN, and Warner Bros.
A few months back, we saw the first domino fall when the Husker men’s basketball team had a tremendous season. The wrestling team competed for a conference title, and this past weekend we saw the baseball team win its first Big Ten Championship. Does this string of success bode well for the football team? Or is that just conjecture?
This is also the show where we’re combing through our music catalogs to see if there’s anything that can match AC/DC’s Thunderstruck for that night game light show.

It’s what you’ve always wanted. Going back to talk about a Nebraska football victory.
(Apparently talking more about the Minnesota and Colorado games caused unintended heartache among the populous.)
In Week 3, Nebraska hosted the Huskies of Northern Illinois. It would be the first of a state-wide sweep of the Land of Lincoln, as the HuskERS emerged victorious in Head Coach Matt Rhule’s regular season debut in Memorial stadium.
This week, Hoss and Greg take an emotionally detached look at the victory, what went right for Nebraska and how they would use that win to build on future success.

Nebraska baseball got drubbed, badly, in their first game of the Big Ten tournament by Ohio State 15-2.
They then went on a tear, winning the whole damned thing, earning Nebraska’s first Big Ten Baseball tournament win in school history.
Will Bolt and his B1G Champions are headed to Stillwater for the NCAA Regional Tournament and will face the Florida Gators in the first round.
The second seeded Cornhuskers are also joined by the host Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Niagara Purple Eagles. Oklahoma State blew through the Big 12 conference tournament, and Niagara won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Look, we get it...we don’t want to relive Nebraska-Colorado 2023 either. But the idea of this series of shows is to review the games with the benefit of being emotionally detached instead of the instant reactions in the moment.
This is a clinical approach to the game, breaking down the numbers and missed opportunities. Nebraska did a tremendous job of shooting itself in the foot. The turnovers in that game were indicative of the issues that would plague the Huskers all season long.
While it may invoke some sadness or anger, go with us on this ride as Hoss finds silver linings in the most unusual places.

This week on the Five Heart Podcast, Greg and his assistants will bury the hatchet of bad Husker football.
But before we get there, prepare yourselves for the first Nebraska home game under the Friday Night Lights as it was announced that the Cornhuskers will host Illinois on Friday, September 20. The sellout streak reaches 400 that night if enough parents and grandparents forget their offspring and fill up Memorial Stadium. We feel for you fans who have to make that decision. And on behalf of all of us, we truly believe that Friday nights are for high school football!
Then the team puts the demons of bad football to rest. With the help of viewers like you, we have some bonehead plays that are a little too memorable for our liking. You can get away with it if you’re winning, but when when some of these costly errors lead to defeat, it hurts even more. I mean, HOW THE HELL DO YOU PUNT TO THE WRONG SIDE OF THE FIELD?
A little bit about the record number of student athletes who graduated last week and at the request of you Chatterfields, we have some suggestions on a new song to play with the light show between the third and fourth quarters.
All that and we’ll try to keep it to 90 minutes or less.
Wish us luck! GBR!

USC guy Tim Prangley joins me tonight and to discuss fun USC things! Mr. Prangely covers USC Athletics for USA Today and here on Youtube is part of the The Voice of College Football gang.
Some topics:
What was your impression when you first saw the news that USC was joining the Big Ten?
What was your reaction from a USC perspective, and then from a reaction of the other, the four teams that were joining, and leaving the other teams behind?
Where do you think USC will fit into the Big Ten and football in terms of pecking order?
How hard will it be for you to learn how to hate Iowa? Because the rest of us do, and you’re going to find out sooner or later that there’s reasons for that.
From the Pac-12 perspective, was this a conference that relatively got along with each other?
The Big Ten is a conference full of people that - some of us tolerate each other, some of us enjoy each other, and then there’s some that there’s downright some pretty good heavy sports hate about.
Nebraska does not have much of a history at all with USC. Nebraska has never beaten USC, and that shocked me.
Last season, USC had a pretty down year. Caleb Williams was the number one overall pick in the NFL draft, but USC did not have a good season. What are we looking at for USC this season, and what do you think of Lincoln Riley and the idea that he doesn’t really care that much about defense?
Do you think the Big Ten will change the way that USC has to approach football?
What about other sports, sports other than the football?

Emotionally Detached. Those are the words we want you to remember as we embark on this journey through the 2023 Husker football season.
First up...the season opening Thursday night road game at Minnesota. Matt Rhule’s first game roaming the Nebraska sideline. Jeff Sims at quarterback.
Late turnovers upended Nebraska’s plans to start the season 1-0, despite outgaining the Golden Gophers in yardage. The defense gave us a glimpse into their capabilities, holding MN to less than 300 yards total.
Greg and Hoss revisit the 2023 season opener. If you like X’s and O’s and whatever Greg brings to the table, you’re in for a treat!

With the Nebraska Spring Game firmly in the rearview, it’s time to look to the future. The future includes:
A 6:30pm kickoff with Colorado in Lincoln
- how successful has Nebraska been in night games in the last ten years?
A 4-star quarterback commits to the Huskers for the 2025 class
- the young man from Orange, CA appears to be 5-heart as well
Mike Riley joins the College Football Playoff committee
- he certainly won’t hold any ill-will for being future-endeavored by Nebraska
Matt Rhule was on ESPN recently. He discussed:
- what the team emphasized in the Spring
- why WR additions Neyor and Banks ae crucial
- and most important - how to not turn the ball over 32 times.

The final chapter of the season. We will be talking about Iowa City, the tournament and what we loved about this team.
It’s time to talk Big 10 Tournament softball, some weird NCAA tournament selections and the season in general and what we’ll remember about this team.

It’s the final week of the regular season for Husker baseball. Join Greg an our baseball writer Aaron tonight as we look back at the exciting series win against Indiana (AND NO OTHER GAMES FROM LAST WEEK), and also look ahead to Michigan State for the final series as Nebraska tries to catch Illinois in the race for the conference championship.
We will also discuss the upcoming Big Ten Tournament and where Nebraska and other schools stand, and take a sneak peak at potential landing spots for Nebraska in the NCAA tournament as well as answer your questions.
