Emotionally Detached. Those are the words we want you to remember as we embark on this journey through the 2023 Husker football season.
First up...the season opening Thursday night road game at Minnesota. Matt Rhule’s first game roaming the Nebraska sideline. Jeff Sims at quarterback.
Late turnovers upended Nebraska’s plans to start the season 1-0, despite outgaining the Golden Gophers in yardage. The defense gave us a glimpse into their capabilities, holding MN to less than 300 yards total.
Greg and Hoss revisit the 2023 season opener. If you like X’s and O’s and whatever Greg brings to the table, you’re in for a treat!

With the Nebraska Spring Game firmly in the rearview, it’s time to look to the future. The future includes:
A 6:30pm kickoff with Colorado in Lincoln
- how successful has Nebraska been in night games in the last ten years?
A 4-star quarterback commits to the Huskers for the 2025 class
- the young man from Orange, CA appears to be 5-heart as well
Mike Riley joins the College Football Playoff committee
- he certainly won’t hold any ill-will for being future-endeavored by Nebraska
Matt Rhule was on ESPN recently. He discussed:
- what the team emphasized in the Spring
- why WR additions Neyor and Banks ae crucial
- and most important - how to not turn the ball over 32 times.

The final chapter of the season. We will be talking about Iowa City, the tournament and what we loved about this team.
It’s time to talk Big 10 Tournament softball, some weird NCAA tournament selections and the season in general and what we’ll remember about this team.

It’s the final week of the regular season for Husker baseball. Join Greg an our baseball writer Aaron tonight as we look back at the exciting series win against Indiana (AND NO OTHER GAMES FROM LAST WEEK), and also look ahead to Michigan State for the final series as Nebraska tries to catch Illinois in the race for the conference championship.
We will also discuss the upcoming Big Ten Tournament and where Nebraska and other schools stand, and take a sneak peak at potential landing spots for Nebraska in the NCAA tournament as well as answer your questions.

This week on the Five Heart Podcast, we continue our Spring Game 2024 conversation with the one and only Hoss Reuter.
Hoss has always brought a unique analytical approach to the Five Heart Podcast. Longtime listeners will recall him in the co-host chair for a number of years dispensing wisdom, sometimes at the expense of former HCSF.
Hoss has some topics he’s bringing your way:
• Offensive concepts/identity with Raiola at QB
• How Raiola/passing game will open up the run
• what I-Back will benefit the most from an opened up passing game
• Don’t use “pro style” as a pejorative
• how he thinks we will win games this year
• Matt Rhule is ahead of schedule
I’m as eager to learn more as you are.
So in honor of Hoss’ glorious return, this will be a FOOTBALL ONLY show. It’s okay, baseball lost to South Dakota State anyway.

Big doings for the Huskers these days. They played well enough against Minnesota to earn a bye in the B1G Tourney - will their reward be a 4th straight game against the Gophers?

Tuesday May 07, 2024

My former boss Matt Brown will be joining me tonight for Monday Night Therapy.
Matt Brown is the founder of Extra Points, a newsletter that talks about the college part of college sports. He is the most knowledgeable person on the entire planet about EA Sports College Football, the video game, outside of those who work for EA Sports.
We will be discussing EA Sports COLLEGE FOOTBALL!
Matt Brown has also been following the House versus NCAA case, and there is talk of a negotiated settlement coming up that will compensate, as part of the settlement, will compensate college athletes.
It is expected that this will cost sizable athletic departments that wish to participate between $17 and $22 million a year, according to Ross Dellenger in a published article on Yahoo Sports a few days ago.
Big schools like Nebraska - land grant institutions, members of the Big Ten and SEC are going to be able to afford the provisions in this settlement. Matt and I will discuss what the potential settlement means for college sports in the not too distant future.
What’s gonna happen to all the Division II and Division III schools, or even the group of five schools that can’t afford to just pump out $20 million to pay their athletes?
What will happen to Olympic sports across the board?

This week on the the show, it’s a mild audible. Our intent was to have the one and only Hoss Reuter on the show to break down the Nebraska Spring Game. But Hoss has been under the weather this week so we are putting a pin in his input until next week.
We will have our own review of the Red/White game in which the White Squad won 25-21. The format of the game was different than in years past which provided a fresh viewing experience.
And while the Nebraska baseball team was swept in its season series Tuesday night against Creighton, Jackson Brockett put the squad on his back for Nebraska’s first complete-game no-hitter since the Eisenhower administration en route to an 8-0 win over Kansas State.

No description given. But I assure you...Nebraska Cornhusker softball is discussed.

Thursday Apr 25, 2024

This week on the Five Heart Podcast, Greg and Minnie will prepare you for the annual Red White Game this Saturday in Lincoln.
What are we looking for from the game? Will the running backs pass protect? How will the wide receivers look in press coverage? Who will stand out on the offensive line and will Danny Dimes be crowned the starting QB before or after halftime?
And that’s just on the offensive side of the ball.
Speaking of, which side of the ball do you “root for” in the Spring Game? Do you want to see the offense light it up or does that give you doubts about the defense? Do you want the defense to be dynamic and shut down the offense or does that make you lose confidence in that side of the ball? No wrong answers, just curious.
It’s the night of the NFL Draft, so we will take a few minutes to visit with Corn Nation’s Brian Johannes to discuss the possibility of any Huskers being drafted, or where the rumors indicate they may fall in the undrafted free agent market.
We’ll hit some news and notes from around college sports, including but not limited to some football and basketball transfer portal acquisitions and the roller coasters that are Colorado’s football roster and Reggie Bush’s Heisman Trophy journey.
