This week on Corn Nation’s Overreaction Revisited podcast, Greg and Hoss go back to October of 2023 and Nebraska’s road loss to Michigan State.
Hear Hoss rip apart East Lansing and the surrounding areas, as well as his take on Spartan Stadium.
As a reminder in this game, and most of the troubles of the ‘23 campaign, turnovers played a decisive part in the outcome.
But that Comfort Inn and Suites leaves a lot to be desired.

This week on the Five Heart Podcast, we are thrilled to be joined (if even for a brief time) by Hoss Reuter. Hoss will break down for us why schools like Cal ended up in the ACC and why Rutgers has Big Ten conference games against three (3) West Coast teams.
After some speculation, Nebraska has a new defensive backs coach. What do we know about John Butler?
You have the opportunity to support current and future Huskers if you attend a night practice. We’ll have the details and discuss if that’s something anyone should want to do.
Besides all that, I’m putting this together even hours before showtime so I’m sure I’m missing something. C’est la vie.
And GBR.

Wax on, wax off. Sweep the leg. Get him a body bag, yeaaahhh. You beginner luck. Your mommy isn’t here to dress you?? You’re damn right it’s time for The Karate Kid.
“We make sacred pact. I promise teach karate to you, you promise learn. I say, you do, no questions.”
And with that, a Rocky-esque story about an annoying skinny punk from New Jersey who hits the ground in SoCal running - well, mostly into fists, feet and the ground - begins its training mode as a wise, old Okinanwan teaches him karate. After entering him in a karate tournament to save him beatings.
The Karate Kid is next up on All The Right Movies and, like Rocky, it’s effects are still being felt generations after its release. To give that perspective, Season 6 of Cobra Kai is being released on July 18th not quite a month after the 40-year anniversary of Kid’s original release.
And remember - man who catch fly with chopstick accomplish anything.

I am back from my Canadian fishing trip and this week it’s time to start talking about the 2024 Nebraska football season.
We’re going to begin with the offensive line because that’s where everything begins. The game is won, the game is lost on the strength of the offensive line and Nebraska’s offensive line hasn’t been very good for a very long time.
One thing to note from last year that’s changed. This year there’s been no talk of Donovan Raiola being a weak link on the coaching staff. There’s been no talk of him at all.
Whereas last year we thought that he would be a terrible coach in addition to the new staff. That’s proven so far to be wrong.
Nebraska has a very experienced offensive line going into this season. Bryce Benhart has 41 starts, which ties the all-time record for offensive line starts before the season even begins.

This week on the Five Heart Podcast, Greg and Minnie discuss the latest players who committed to play for the Huskers, wo offensive linemen, including a center. Matt Rhule and his staff are doing great things on the recruiting trail.
Also, since it’s July and we’re looking for things to discuss, we’re going through the 133 years of Nebraska football and examining our Top 5 football uniforms.
And last but not least, it’s a party! America had a birthday, obviously. But July 5 is Greg’s birthday as well as Chatterfield charter-member Jason. And we’re going to celebrate, BYOB-style.

Friday Jul 05, 2024

This week on the Overreaction Revisited Podcast, Hoss and Greg discuss the Nebraska-Purdue game from October 28, 2023.
Hoss states that “weird things happen around Halloween.” That is what turned a 24-0 lead into a 24-14 lead and gave the Boilermakers a little hope late in the game.
While the offense was sharp for three quarters, fatigue had to have set in and mistakes were made in the fourth frame. Purdue scored all of their points off of turnovers, making the score closer than it seemed and the defensive effort lesser.
The Blackshirts held the Boilermakers to under 200 yards of total offense, and as Hoss put it, despite the end-of-game weariness, it was perhaps the most complete game of the season.
Give it a listen or a watch and be sure to subscribe to the YouTube channel for all Corn Nation shows.

The Dog Days of Summer are here, so what better way to start lollygagging through them than to spend some quality time with the Durham Bulls. What’s that make us, Larry?!?! Lollygaggers.
Time to face it. The NBA and NHL championships just ended. College and pro football are a couple months from starting and the pennant races really won’t kick into overdrive until August. (Okay, we do have the Olympics coming up, but one can only count on those every four years. As if.
So that gives us baseball and Bull Durham is just perfect for that. We get dropped in on the early stages of another dreary season which finds the Durham Bulls off to an 8-16 start (“8 and 16. How’d we ever win 8?”)
For everyone’s favorite well-read cougar, Annie Savoy, this is the best time of the year and once Ebby Calvin “Nuke” Laloosh and Crash Davis show up, it gets a whole lot better.
Join us as we look back at Bull Durham which starred Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins - each of whom had star turn or two prior to this, but launched to stardom after.
And remember - this is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball.

Friday Jun 28, 2024

This week on Corn Nation Overreaction Revisited, Greg and Hoss discuss the 2023 Battle for NU: Nebraska vs Northwestern.
Was it the most beautiful win of the season? No. But Hoss indicates it may be the most important. We tied it into the Illinois game from the previous week and how perhaps the goal line stand at the beginning of that game played an integral part in the Huskers not being a 2- or 3-win team.
Nebraska overcame an opening-drive interception and did just enough to keep the wolves (or Wildcats) at bay.
Next week...Purdue.

Thursday Jun 27, 2024

This week we’re continuing to look at future Huskers. Or...maybe future Huskers?
TJ Lateef recently answered “I won’t speak on that” in an interview when asked if his recruiting was shut down after committing to Nebraska. So obviously the sky is falling.
But hey, maybe we’re landing 5-star transfer kicker John Hohl. Will he be a back up to Tristan Alvano?
For 7 weeks Nebraska lists “Elite” players, so who makes the Week 3 List? And running back Mekhi Nelson re-classified his play year from 2025 to 2024, allowing him to be on campus one year sooner.

On the night after one of the most improbable Game 7’s in the history of the NHL’s Stanley Cup Finals, it seemed like the perfect time to screen Miracle the story of one of the most improbable teams and games in the history of sports.
Kurt Russell starred as Herb Brooks, the coach of this team who assisted as a technical advisor throughout the shoot, but died in a car crash shortly before the movie’s release. Russell studied Herb Brooks and successfully learned his speech and mannerisms pulling off one of the great movie locker room speeches ever. Listening now still gives the chills, makes the heart swell and the tears well.
That’s just a taste.
For the whole meal, join myself and special guest host Mylie Ketterson tonight at 8pm CST on Corn Nation’s YouTube Live Channel. Please feel free to add your comments - we can’t show them all, but we love the engagement and will get plenty up there.
