The Dog Days of Summer are here, so what better way to start lollygagging through them than to spend some quality time with the Durham Bulls. What’s that make us, Larry?!?! Lollygaggers.
Time to face it. The NBA and NHL championships just ended. College and pro football are a couple months from starting and the pennant races really won’t kick into overdrive until August. (Okay, we do have the Olympics coming up, but one can only count on those every four years. As if.
So that gives us baseball and Bull Durham is just perfect for that. We get dropped in on the early stages of another dreary season which finds the Durham Bulls off to an 8-16 start (“8 and 16. How’d we ever win 8?”)
For everyone’s favorite well-read cougar, Annie Savoy, this is the best time of the year and once Ebby Calvin “Nuke” Laloosh and Crash Davis show up, it gets a whole lot better.
Join us as we look back at Bull Durham which starred Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins - each of whom had star turn or two prior to this, but launched to stardom after.
And remember - this is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball.

This week on Corn Nation Overreaction Revisited, Greg and Hoss discuss the 2023 Battle for NU: Nebraska vs Northwestern.
Was it the most beautiful win of the season? No. But Hoss indicates it may be the most important. We tied it into the Illinois game from the previous week and how perhaps the goal line stand at the beginning of that game played an integral part in the Huskers not being a 2- or 3-win team.
Nebraska overcame an opening-drive interception and did just enough to keep the wolves (or Wildcats) at bay.
Next week...Purdue.

This week we’re continuing to look at future Huskers. Or...maybe future Huskers?
TJ Lateef recently answered “I won’t speak on that” in an interview when asked if his recruiting was shut down after committing to Nebraska. So obviously the sky is falling.
But hey, maybe we’re landing 5-star transfer kicker John Hohl. Will he be a back up to Tristan Alvano?
For 7 weeks Nebraska lists “Elite” players, so who makes the Week 3 List? And running back Mekhi Nelson re-classified his play year from 2025 to 2024, allowing him to be on campus one year sooner.

On the night after one of the most improbable Game 7’s in the history of the NHL’s Stanley Cup Finals, it seemed like the perfect time to screen Miracle the story of one of the most improbable teams and games in the history of sports.
Kurt Russell starred as Herb Brooks, the coach of this team who assisted as a technical advisor throughout the shoot, but died in a car crash shortly before the movie’s release. Russell studied Herb Brooks and successfully learned his speech and mannerisms pulling off one of the great movie locker room speeches ever. Listening now still gives the chills, makes the heart swell and the tears well.
That’s just a taste.
For the whole meal, join myself and special guest host Mylie Ketterson tonight at 8pm CST on Corn Nation’s YouTube Live Channel. Please feel free to add your comments - we can’t show them all, but we love the engagement and will get plenty up there.

Want to see my lures?
I have a bad attitude about everything right now. I don’t care about Nebraska football. I don’t care about sports. I don’t care about work.
All I care is that this Saturday I’m going fishing for a week in Canada and there is a good chance that where I’m going there’s a lot of Canadian whore fish that will hit anything.
I’m so in for that because I haven’t caught a muskie in a long time. I’ve never caught a lake trout. I haven’t caught a sizable northern pike for quite a while. It’s been years since I caught a smallmouth bass.
This lake has all of those things and I am so looking forward to going up and invading another country and murdering their fish.
When I say murder, we’ll probably do a lot of catch and release. This lake also has walleye but I’m not a very good walleye fisherman and I know that Minnesota is the land of walleye but I don’t care that much about walleye.
There’s going to be a lot of perch too and those will probably be for eating.
That’s where my thoughts are. You can sign in tonight to hear me talk about going fishing because that’s what I’m doing.

This week Hoss and Greg discuss the 2023 Nebraska-Illinois game with a special guest. Mike co-hosts another of Greg’s podcasts and went with Greg and his oldest (Garrett) to his first in-person Husker football game.
This game started bleak as the Illini marched down the field on their opening drive. But Bret Bielema’s team was stonewalled in what could be considered the defining series of the game as the Blackshirt defense stood tall at the goalline.
Nebraska parlayed that into points on the other end and exploded in the second quarter for a 17-7 halftime lead. While the game felt like it was going the Huskers’ way, late game mistakes on offense kept the trio in the cold Champagne night a little longer,

THIS IS THE FORMAT! (You know who you are...)
This week on the Five Heart Podcast, the team will discuss:
- Nebraska Basketball has a BIG weekend planned in November
- 4-star Big Man takes unofficial visit to Lincoln
- Elite 11
- Sundays commitment; 4 star DL Malcolm Simpson
- Our German commitment is on campus this week for his OV
- Who else is visiting this weekend?

- ‘2AM’ wins UFL Championship & Championship Game MVP
- For fun speculation: What’s the position group that will have the most production or impact for Nebraska FB 2024
Will the show slip off the tracks now and then? Maybe. But we’re counting on YOU (again...you know who you are) to keep us from completely falling off a cliff.

Yes, it’s Monday Night Therapy on a Thursday morning. It’s like the Big Ten having 18 teams. It’s a name. I’ll be doing this going forward - live shows whenever the schedule permits.
Dan Rubenstein of the Solid Verbal Podcast joined me to talk about the Oregon Ducks.
We had a good conversation about the fact that Oregon is going to be competitive on a level with Ohio State immediately as they move into the conference.
They have a NIL program that is well organized and well funded. They proved that this past year by picking up a gob of players from the portal to replace a gob of players that went to the NFL.
They are probably one of the top teams to be considered making it to the next college football playoff. T
hey have Nebraska on their schedule at the end of the year at the Big Ten Championship game and I pointed that out to Dan and I hope that he runs with it.
We discussed Oregon sports beyond football and they will be bringing a host of competition to other sports across the board.
We also talked about the future of college football with the house settlement and NIL and paying players and players as employees and Dan’s thoughts on that and then we also discussed what is going to happen when EA’s Sports College Football video game is released.

Please join myself and Corn Nation’s Aaron Rastovski this evening at 8PM CST for the debut broadcast of All The Right Movies, a show for sports movie enthusiasts.
Each week, we will review a memorable sports movie from a variety of angles. Of course, we’ll cover the plot, best scenes and lines, but also things like the music, comedy - intentional or not - the quality of the sports scenes, were there adrenalin scenes?, was there a montage (think of Rocky as the gold standard), and just how Ludacris was the plot? (Roll with me here.)
Tonight’s show is Necessary Roughness which came out in 1991 and starred Scott Bakula, Hector Elizondo, Robert Loggia, Harley Jane Kozak and Larry Miller to name a few. A former Husker also made an appearance, so I figured what better way to kick things off?

This week on Corn Nation Overreaction, Greg and Hoss are revisiting the September 30, 2023 loss to eventual national champion Michigan.
Hoss calls Greg out on his Kool-Aid consumption as he explains passing on the opportunity to attend this game, sit in the 93-degree heat, and watch the Huskers get their brains bashed in 45-7.
Joshua Fleeks provides Nebraska’s only score late in the contest as JJ McCarthy and Blake Corum have a field day at Memorial Stadium. And the guys compare the 2023 loss to the 2021 loss, which Hoss describes as “the best offensive game plan of the Scott Frost era.”
Members get the show 24 hours before everyone else, so if you’re looking for another reason to hang out with the cool kids, there’s one.
